      ABOUT THE ARTIST

      Thomas Jackson @thomasjjackson

Thomas Jackson is an Australian artist and illustrator who was born in Bolton, U.K. Moving to Sydney, Australia as a child, he was instantly drawn to the natural wildlife of this new country.  Fascinated by the local animals and landscapes, he drew inspiration from his new home, as well as scientific plant and animal specimens, entomology and taxidermy. Today, Thomas puts a modern take on  ‘Natural History Illustration’, painstakingly creating smaller scale works for galleries and translating these into large scale public murals.

      ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is inspired by a partnership with Half Cut and their passionate works in the Daintree Rainforest.

"The Paradise Kingfisher is a remarkably striking  bird and a favourite of wildlife enthusiasts who travel to the area. I have placed the Kingfisher on a branch of Idiot fruit, a poisonous fruit that no animal would eat common to the Daintree. Hence you would have to be an idiot to eat it."

Idiot Fruit: The Idiot Fruit (Idiospermum australiense) is one of the oldest known flowering plants in the world. However, the fruit is highly poisonous and it is among the very few fruits no animal or bird will eat.
