ABOUT THE ARTIST
MEGGS @houseofmeggs
David 'MEGGS' Hooke is a mural, street and fine artist recognised for his large scale murals and detailed paintings that combine elements of nature, industry and abstraction to create imagery that evokes a sense of flowing movement and change. His work explores core themes of sustainability, consumerism and duality in an evolving exploration of connectivity and the search for harmony between beauty and decay.
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"This print is a unique section of a larger artwork titled 'Confluence' that was featured at my recent solo show 'Rains to Rust' at Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne". 'Confluence' is a deconstructed and abstract visual interpretation of the connection and flow found in natural landscapes. From the places where water meets earth to where trees meet sky. Everything in nature, as with people, is innately connected; and our actions reflect this. This artwork relates to the current tragic situation in Afghanistan as the Australian Government has a responsibility for the cause and effects thats taken place. As an Australian citizen and artist, we are connected to these actions and have a responsibility to help those in need where we are able.
ABOUT MAHBOBA'S PROMISE
Mahboba's Promise was founded by Mahboba Rawi, an Afghan refugee and now an Australian citizen, who has experienced first-hand the effects of a country torn apart by years of war and civil unrest. With Mahboba’s intimate knowledge of Afghanistan, Mahboba’s Promise was able to respond effectively and flexibly, to directly meet the needs of the country’s orphans and widows. Since then, Mahboba’s Promise has established schools, shelters and health clinics across Afghanistan and provided numerous sponsorships to widows and orphans in need.
